Thy Word Is Settled Forever - Lynn McClurg

Thy Word Is Settled Forever

"Forever; O Lord, thy Word is settled in heaven". Psalm 119:89.    Let's take a closer look at this verse. How long has God's Word been settled? Forever. Who's word is it? God's. Where is it? In heaven. God's Word existed before the earth was created. It's existed forever and that's pretty awesome.

In fact the whole of the bible was God breathed. All of Scripture is God's Word.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 says. "All scripture is inspired by God (God breathed) and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."

How much scripture is inspired? All of scripture. Inspired by who? God. It's profitable for what? Teaching, reproof, correction and training in righteousness.  What purpose?

That the man of God may be (what?) adequate and equipped for every good work.  So the Word of God is powerful, when and only when we study to understand it. Then we can begin to apply it! However, what if we hear it but forget it.  Does that help us to know how to live?  No. I can tell you from personal experience.

How important is the Word of God to me, a Chistian and disciple of Jesus Christ?  Matthew 4:4, Jesus speaking, "It is written, 'man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'"   Wow. How are we 'not' to live?  On bread alone. How are we to live? 'on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

The Word of God as revealed in Scripture is what we are to be living on.  So my question for you is this.

What are you doing, on a consistent basis, to study God's Word?  If the answer is 'I study 3-5 times a week, great'.  If the answer is 'not much'.  Then my question is, what will you do differently to change that?  Keep working at it. Keep working at consistency.  Don't give up.

Being a disciple of Jesus means we wrestle and work to understand the scriptures. Why? Because we love God! He saved us! Then we self-evaluate daily - our self talk, words and actions to see if they line up with the Truth we know.  And we repeat the process over and over all the while improving along the way.

So today, evaluate yourself. No judging. Evaluation only.  Are you daily in God's Word?  If not, keep working at it. Truth guides us and sets us free. Psalm 119:105 " Your Word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path."

John 17:17 "Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is Truth."  John 8:32b "and you will know the Truth, and the Truth will make you free."

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away."  Mark 13:31

What will you do with God's Word?  It's vital that you answer that question.
